Meet the Midwife
Nancy S. Farr, CPM
As the longest standing homebirth midwifery practice in Connecticut, Nancy has been lovingly and skillfully serving the needs of the homebirth community for over 3 decades. She established her midwifery practice in 1988 and became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) as the credential became available. Her experience and qualifications pre-dated and exceeded the NARM requirements.
Her trusting intuition and gentle manner are invaluable to her trade. She has had the honor of being present for over 800 births. Through attendance at seminars and training events, Nancy continues to stay current on various topics pertinent to women's health, birth, parenting, herbal healing, massage, and midwifery.
Nancy believes strongly in the traditional apprentice model of midwifery education. She had the opportunity to train several apprentices who have gone on to open their own practices. She has mentored students from Seattle Midwifery School, Midwives College of Utah, and the National Midwifery Institute. Her years of experience, coupled with her education and training, have sharpened her intuition to trust in the body’s ability to labor, birth, and to know when to intervene. Though the overwhelming majority of her experience has been with home births she has attended to rare complications as well.
Nancy is Mother to three grown children, the third of which was born at home. She is Nanny to five grandchildren currently awaiting her sixth little one. Her own experiences of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood have provided a vivid link to the sacred and profound effects of birth.
Midwifery is the highest calling of my heart. - Nancy
